I recently blogged it is crucial to stop dieting to get out of compulsive overeating. I know how sensitive this issue is for many of you; therefore I will regularly come back to it. When I look at magazines, the number of diets that promise success in controlling weight appalls me. As a compulsive overeater, you can find yourself trying anything out of despair because you don’t know where to turn to, because dieting gives you a feeling of "control", because you absolutely MUST do something to lose weight.
Dieting and bingeing are one. They go hand in hand along the path of madness. It is a love and hate relationship that cannot stop unless dieting is abandoned forever.
Any diet gives the compulsive overeater an unbearable sense of restrictions and frustrations. The body becomes the enemy against which you must fight at all costs: ignore the hunger, ignore the body’s needs, and ignore the body in its entirety. At this rate, the binge is inevitable.
The binge is a sure way to numb yourself and go insensitive to your feelings, your emotions, your thoughts, what happens to you and around you. The binge makes you disappear to yourself and the world.
Without dieting, there is no reason for you to binge because of food frustrations. Without dieting, you satisfy your physical needs. If you feel satisfied and nourished, you are better equipped to cope with whatever happens during your day: your emotions, your relationships with family, the boss or co-workers, the unsuccessful project X you worked on so hard for the past month etc.
Without dieting, you give yourself the chance to stay connected to your body and be attentive to its needs and
desires. It becomes your friend and your ally. If you're connected, you remain conscious. You're there. You are present to yourself, present to your world, present to the world.
Today, can you give yourself permission to be present to yourself and be your best friend? In giving yourself permission, you give yourself the gift of love and freedom.
With all my support and always by your side, Anne

I just found your blog on an internet surf and am so glad I did, because although I am morbidly obese and need to lose over 100 lbs (in fact somewhere between 150 - 170 lbs) I have just this year begun to realise that perhaps my "normal" diet and gym routine is not the best approach, perhaps I need to take a step back and examine the problem differently.

Thank you for your comment. Even though it is not easy to find the right nutrition path for oneself, dieting is certainly the worse according to my own experience. Try another path if you feel intuitively you need to, and see what happens. Living foods can definitely be a big help on the way. Let me know how it goes.
Love and support, Anne
